Professorship (W 2) Mathematical Physics, University of Potsdam

The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Science, Institute of Mathematics invites applications for the following position to be filled as soon as possible:

Professorship (W 2) Mathematical Physics

We are looking for an internationally renowned mathematician who is active in a modern field of mathematical physics involving structures in mathematics inspired by physics. The excellence of the candidate’s research activities should be demonstrated through publications in leading journals. We expect the candidate to represent mathematical physics in research and teaching, as well as to actively seek interaction and build up collaborations with various research groups based at the Institute of Mathematics and at the Institute of Physics and Astronomy. The candidate is also expected to have a solid mathematical background and must be open to interactions in the area of theoretical physics within the university as well as with the various research institutes in Potsdam and Berlin. In addition, the candidate should have experience in teaching, in soliciting external funding, and in supervising students.

The successful candidate will teach in the German-language bachelor’s and teacher-training degree programs as well as in the English-language master’s degree program. This includes, in particular, the newly established program for teacher training in Integrated Mathematics and Physics as well as advanced courses in Mathematics and within the Department of Natural Sciences. A central role of the chosen candidate will be to teach the course Mathematics for Physicists.
