Postdoctoral Research Associate in Probability Theory

Position Summary:

As a part of the project funded by ONR (Office of Naval Research), the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) lab in the Mechanical Eng. Department at the University of North Texas (UNT), a Carnegie Tier One research institution, is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The CFD lab develops numerical methods for deterministic and stochastic simulations in a wide range of areas including modeling and simulations of ocean vehicle dynamics in turbulent free surface flows in the presence of random waves. More information about the CFD lab and research activities can be found at:

The postdoctoral research associate will develop mathematical models for ocean vehicle responses in random waves using the concept of conditional stochastic processes. The position is for one year, but it can be extended to three years depending on the productivity and funding status. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Minimum qualification:

Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
Solid background in probability theory as well as Gaussian and non-Gaussian stochastic processes

Preferred qualification:

Prior experience in modeling and simulations
Familiar with series approximating probability distribution functions
Familiar with wave theories
Graduate or post-graduate experience at a U.S. Academic Institution or National Laboratory

Job duties:

· Develop mathematical methods and validate them
· Model and simulate vehicle dynamics in random waves
· Post-process and analyze data
· Prepare manuscripts for publications in a timely manner and talks and posters for presentation at group meetings and conferences
· Assist with reporting research progress to funding agencies
· Keep up with historical and latest research data and publication
· Train students and other junior colleagues
· Stay up-to-date with all training, and federal, state, university, and department requirements

Interested applicants should email their CVs to Dr. Sadat (hamid.sadat@unt.edu), the director of the CFD lab, by December 31st.
