EWM in Turkey 2020-2022

Report on Activities of Association for Turkish Women in Mathematics Since June 2020

The Association for Turkish Women in Mathematics has been established in June, 2012 with the aim
to support women in mathematics, in social and scientific areas. The Association tries to create
opportunities for woman mathematicians to facilitate the advancement of their careers by cooperating
with similar associations like EWM.

In order to achieve this goal the association, tries to bring women mathematicians, graduate students together to share their research, experience and ideas by organizing Women and Science events, Workshops of Association for Turkish Women in Mathematics, Graduate Summer Schools, and Women and Maths events, every year. The aim is to organize Women and Science events and Workshops in a different university in Turkey each year. But due to Covid-19 pandemic, face to face events has been canceled. After a while the association has managed to organize online version of the events. Since May 2022, the association has started to organize hybrid events.

In this report, I will try to give details of the events that have been organized by ATWM since my last
report, June 2020:

ATWM International Women’s Day Events: We have organized two online events. There was a talk
titled “Being a female academic in difficult times: Pandemic and Beyond” on March 06, 2021 by Zuhal
Yesilyurt Gunduz ve Birgul Demirtas. The second event was a talk given by Yesim Aydin Soy and Seher
Nur Sulku about their work on probabilistic modeling of the course of Covid-19 outbreak in Turkey, on

VII-th Workshop of Association for Turkish Women in Maths : The seventh Workshop of Association
for Turkish Women in Maths has been held on April 27 and 28, 2022 as online this year. There
were four invited talks on Mathematical Biology and Algebra. On day one Hayriye Gülbudak, gave a talk
on “Modeling the co-dissemination of infectious diseases in immunological and societal dimensions” and
Meltem Gölgeli, talked about “Periodic exacerbations of infectious diseases and mathematical modeling
approaches”. On day two, Songül Esin, gave a talk titled “Generalized Catalan numbers, series, truncated stack-sortable permutations” and Evrim Akalan, talked on “On the multiplicative theory of

We have also planned Fifth Graduate Summer School of Association for Turkish Women in Maths
which will take place during July 13-22, 2022 in METU, Ankara. The topics of this year are Geometric
Group Theory and Applied Algebraic Topology.

More details about these events can be found in the webpage “https://tkmd.org/?lang=en”. One can
also find the uploaded recordings of all the events in the YouTube channel of ATWM, “KadinMatematikcilerDernegi“
