EWM in Republic of Moldova, 2020-2022

The number of EWM members in Moldova is small, but I can say that women mathematicians,
members of EWM are involved and coordinate the development of numerous didactic-scientific
and research and cultural events both at USM and other institutions in the country and from
abroad. The active members of EWM from Moldova are Galina Rusu, Associate Professor,
USM, current Secretary of State, CWM Ambassador, Parascovia Sîrbu, Associate Professor,
USM, Director of the Doctoral School, Ribacova Galina, Associate Professor, USM, Tkacenko
Alexandra, Associate Professor, USM, spokesman for the Department of Mathematics, Regional
Coordinator of EWM. It is noteworthy that we all carry out our basic didactic-scientific activity
at USM, Department of Mathematics. The small number of EWM members is due to the fact that
many young people, including women mathematicians from the Republic of Moldova, EWM
members, go abroad for studies or for various other scientific activities mainly for material
reasons. Those who remain are EWM supporters and support us in our work, but for financial
reasons they cannot afford to be members of EWM. We hope that Moldova’s status as an EU
candidate will solve these problems.

1. The activity of women mathematicians in the Republic of Moldova in the period 2020-2022
was marked by some difficulties, which in fact affected the whole globe, such as Covid-19.
Thus, in this situation, the activity of women mathematicians involved the transition of the
didactic activity in on-line regime with the corresponding preparation of the courses and
seminar and their placement on various access platforms.

2. The women members of EWM from Moldova have published several scientific articles in
various journals with high quotation rates. Last but not least, the members of EWM from
Moldova participated both with scientific papers, which were published later, being at the
same time members of the scientific and organizing committees at the following scientific
conferences:
1) International Symposium, Experience. Knowledge. Contemporary Challenges, 6thEdition,
May 14-15, 2020, “ARTIFEX” University, Bucharest, Romania,

2) International Conference MITRE-2021, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Moldova State University, July 01–03,                                                   2021, USM, Chişinău, RM,

3) The 28-th Conference on Applied and Industrial Mathematics, CAIM 2021, September 17-19, Chisinau, RM,                      https://www.romai.ro/caim_21.html

4) International Conference MMOTI 2021, November 15-19, Chisinau, RM

5) 9th edition of the International Symposium „Experience. Knowledge. Contemporary Challenges”, hosted by the                                          „ARTIFEX” University of Bucharest, December 15th-16th, 2021,

3. I would also like to mention the participation of EWM member from Moldova in the video
project: “Words of women in mathematics during the Crown”, as well as in others. On May
12, 2021, together with Mrs. CWM Ambassador Galina Rusu, we organized an online event
with a high participation of women mathematicians from Moldova in connection with the
celebration of the International Day of the Mathematician Woman. EWM Regional
Coordinator Alexandra Tkacenko gave a presentation on EWM and its priorities, and CWM
Ambassador Galina Rusu briefed the public on the opening of EWM for both participation
and funding in various scientific activities.

4. I must also note the spring period of this year, the period marked by the Russian invasion of
Ukraine … The Republic of Moldova being located in the close vicinity of Ukraine, of course
this situation marked us as well. Several economic sectors as well as the research activity
were affected, by the cancellation of several scientific activities, which were to take place in
Ukraine, Moldova. I can mention that the population of the Republic of Moldova, including
teachers and the EWM group of women mathematicians from Moldova, have all been
actively involved in supporting Ukrainian refugees. We do this out of compassion and
solidarity with the Ukrainian people, expressing the desire to live in peace for the peaceful
continuation of socio-human activity.
