University Professor of Applied Mathematics with Focus on Differential Geometry and its Applications

The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of a
University Professor
of
APPLIED MATHEMATICS WITH FOCUS ON
DIFFERENTIAL GEOMETRY AND ITS APPLICATIONS
at the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and
Physics.
It is a position in accordance with § 98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz –
UG) and will be based on a civil-law employment contract with the University on the basis of
the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract will be concluded for an
unlimited period; the extent of employment is 100%.
Responsibilities include
The chair-holder is expected to represent the subject of “Differential Geometry and its
Applications” both in research and teaching with a focus on “Applied Mathematics”, for
instance in the areas of numerical mathematics, mathematical physics and machine
learning/data science.
She/he will seek cooperation with the existing research groups of the department of
mathematics as well as the faculty’s Research Areas “Digital Science Center”, “Physics” and
“Scientific Computing” and also interact with the faculty-spanning research areas.
In teaching, the future professor needs to contribute to/cover the subject area of
mathematics with a focus on differential geometry on all three levels of the Bologna System
(B.A., M.A., PhD) in the relevant courses of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science
and Physics.
Personal involvement in academic administration and self-governance as well as in the
department’s and faculty’s working groups will form another essential duty.
Employment Requirements include
a) a degree in higher education in Austria or the equivalent abroad, pertinent to the position;
b) pertinent habilitation/venia docendi or comparable qualification (e.g. senior lecturer,
associate professor);
c) publications in leading international peer-reviewed academic journals;
d) proven competence in differential geometry and its applications;
e) evidence of involvement in international research;
f) relevant international experience;
g) experience in acquiring and managing of competitive third-party funds;
h) exceptional teaching skills;
i) management skills;
j) the ability to teach in English;
k) knowledge of German is not a prerequisite; however, the holder of the position will be
expected to become proficient in German at the level B2 within 2 years.

i.e., for a full-term professorship the basic salary is € 92.460,20. Depending on qualification
