University Assistant Professorships in Mathematics or Statistics (two positions)

Applications are invited for two University Assistant Professorships to commence on 1 September 2023 or by agreement. The posts are each linked to College Lectureships, one at Newnham College and the other at Murray Edwards College, to which the successful applicants will be simultaneously appointed. These linked posts are intended to support and promote the study of mathematics and research in mathematics by women.

Applicants should hold a PhD in mathematics, statistics or a closely related subject and be able to demonstrate an outstanding research record. They should be able to lecture at undergraduate and Masters levels in mathematics or statistics. The appointee will contribute to the activities of an existing research group in DPMMS or will complement such activities within the scope of the Department. Successful applicants will also have a strong interest in and commitment to promoting the study of mathematics and research in mathematics by women.

As College Lecturer, the successful applicants will engage in teaching and other duties agreed within the College, including outreach, for which an additional stipend will be paid.

Appointment to both Assistant Professorships is to the retiring age, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period (three to five years), when the post-holder will become an Associate Professor. The postholders will be eligible to apply for promotion to Professor via the University’s Academic Career Pathways scheme.

In order to facilitate the research career of the appointees, duties in the first two years will be light. Outreach and other activities promoting mathematics by women will be taken account of by the Department in balancing workload throughout the appointment. Generous start-up packages will be provided to assist the post-holders in establishing their research in Cambridge.
