RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN TOPOLOGY

The Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate funded by the Philip Leverhulme Prize held by Dr Oscar Randal-Williams. The post holder will work in the Topology group (faculty members include Prof Gabriel Paternain, Prof Ivan Smith, Prof Jake Rasmussen and Dr Ailsa Keating) on projects related to homotopy theory and moduli spaces. The post is available for one year from 1 September 2019 (or by negotiation). Appointments will be made at an appropriate point on the University’s Research Associate scale.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, a strong research track record, and may have previous postdoc experience. Duties and their timing are flexible. Further duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. Candidates will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required. They must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. The post holder may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.
