The Computer »Media Security« chair at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has a vacancy at the next possible date for the position of a

Research Assistant / PhD Student or Postdoctoral Researcher

with the aim of furthering their own scientific qualification. The position is initially limited to three years. An extension is possible according to the current regulations of the Fixed-Term Academic Contracts Act (WissZeitVG).

The scientific qualification is ideally in the field of symmetric cryptography. Research topics include, but are not limited to:

Design and analysis of primitives for symmetric cryptosystems (e.g., block ciphers and hash functions)
Design and analysis of algorithms for secret-key encryption, authentication, and authenticated encryption
Quantum algorithms and their application in attacks on symmetric cryptosystems
Design and analysis of hash-based signature schemes
Language-theoretic security methods for the secure implementation of communication protocols

Knowledge in one or more of the above topics will be valuable.

Responsibilities:

Participation in teaching, research and the university’s self-administration
Conducting bachelor- and English-language master courses
Supervision of student projects and theses
Research in the field of cryptography
Assisting with external funding proposals and research projects

Hiring requirements:

Successfully completed university studies (diploma, master or equivalent) in computer science or a closely related field
An excellent track record in classes related to cryptography or quantum algorithms, or in general excellent results in mathematics and theoretical computer science
Very good programming skills
Very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken, for the performance of teaching and for writing scientific publications
Willingness to imparting specialized knowledge to students, own familiarization with new research areas and to the presentation of scientific results at international conferences
Good knowledge of German is an advantage for carrying out teaching
Also beneficial is experience with the tools used by the working group (Linux, git, and LaTeX)

The position is also open for recently graduated postdocoral researchers. In that case, candidates need a publication list with at least three outstanding publications, thematically related to the above research topics.

Remuneration is in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement for public service of the federal states (TV-L) according to the personal requirements up to pay group 13 TV-L.
