The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises seven non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes are members of the Leibniz Association.
MaRDI (Mathematical Research Data Initiative https://www.mardi4nfdi.de) is the mathematical research data initiative within the framework of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI – https://www.nfdi.de) and has been funded by the BMBF and the GWK for five years since October 2021.
In the work area “Cooperation with other disciplines” of MaRDI, the WIAS research group
“Stochastic Algorithms and Nonparametric Statistics”
(Head: Professor Vladimir Spokoiny) has an immediate vacancy for the position of a
Research Assistant (m/f/d)
for knowledge modeling in the area of statistics
with connection to image processing or neuroscience
(Reference number 22/08)
to be filled.
The work tasks include:
· Documentation and analysis of workflows in the area of image processing and neuroscience
· Standardization of mathematical descriptions of mathematical methods in neurosciences
· Development of associated meta-data descriptions
· Development of a database of mathematical methods and integration into the MaRDI knowledge graph
· Supporting the development of the “MaRDI Portal for Interdisciplinary Exchange” by data integration based on case studies
Requirements for employment are a university degree, preferably in mathematics, natural sciences, engineering or computer sciences, as well as experience in the field of statistics or image processing.
A strong interest in Open Science, an affinity for research data and interdisciplinary work at the interface between mathematics and life science as well as between research and technical infrastructure are expected.
Experience in knowledge representation methods and knowledge graphs is desirable, as well as knowledge of tools for collaborative work (e.g. github, gitlab), scripting languages, experience in working on projects in spatially distributed workgroups.

The position is paid according to TVöD (Bund) and is limited until 30 September 2026. The reduced working hours are 29,25 hours per week (75%).
