Professorship (W3) “Mathematics – Applied Algebra” at TU Berlin

Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty II – Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Mathematics invites applications (deadline November 18th, 2022) for the permanent position of a University Professor – salary grade W3 for the field of “Mathematics – Applied Algebra”

Working field:
Research and teaching in an area of applied algebra. Teaching duties are in mathematics degree programs teaching the basic courses of these programs as well as service teaching of mathematics for non-mathematical programs. Classes are to be taught in German and English. Additional duties include supervising students’ final theses and participation in academic self-governance as appropriate. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in current joint research projects in the area of mathematics in Berlin as well as actively contribute to research initiatives and Collaborative Research Centers, the MATH+ Cluster of Excellence and the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS).

Further responsibilities include leading and managing the chair and its staff; supporting the advancement of junior scholars, women, and diversity; knowledge and technology transfer; initiatives to promote internationalization; acting in the interest of gender equality and diversity as well as sustainability.

Requirements:
Candidates must fulfill hiring requirements as per Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act.

We are looking for candidates with an international profile in an area of applied algebra to conduct research and teaching in this discipline. Internationally published research findings in an area of applied algebra must be in the form of relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals. In the area of research, we are looking for a candidate whose focus ties in with current areas of expertise at TU Berlin’s Institute of Mathematics and also enables active collaboration in current joint projects in mathematics with other universities and research institutions in Berlin, and which at the same time contributes to increasing expertise in mathematics in Berlin, particularly at TU Berlin.

Relevant teaching experience and experience of supervising students’ theses are expected.

Experience of working in third-party funded projects and joint research projects as well as experience in academic self-governance are desirable, as is experience of service teaching of mathematics for non-mathematical programs.
