Professorship in Optimization

The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to a

Tenured Professorship in

„Optimization“

(W2 salary)

within the Faculty of Natural Sciences II, Institute of Mathematics. The position will commence preferably by Oct. 1st, 2021.

We are seeking an excellent researcher in an area of mathematical optimization with a link to mathematical modelling, analysis and simulation of complex deterministic or stochastic systems. A particular emphasis lies in optimization of differential equation models. Examples include optimal control or optimization with partial differential equations, preferably with applications in natural sciences. A prospective connection to the existing research in the analysis, numerics or stochastics groups as well as to the research networks of the faculty is desirable. In teaching the professor will represent the area of optimization and participate on the instruction of general mathematical courses within the study programs in mathematics and in natural sciences (Bachelor, Master, and Teacher Education). These introductory courses are taught in German. It is expected that the successful candidate takes part in academic administrative duties.

Further duties and responsibilities are stipulated in section 34 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities. Applicants need to fulfill the pre-conditions of appointment as stipulated in section 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities. Particular emphasis is placed on a Habilitation in the relevant field, or an equivalent level of scientific achievement and recognition. Candidates are expected to have attained the appropriate level of experience or qualification in teaching.
