Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mathematical Physics (Oxford)

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Professors Francis Brown and Lionel Mason on an exciting project to develop the mathematics of scattering amplitudes and connections with algebraic geometry, in particular the Galois theory of periods. This is a fixed-term position funded by ERC and is available for 1 year in the first instance, with the potential for extension until 28 February 2022. The postholder will be based here at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford.

The purpose of this project is to develop the theory on both sides, with the aim to provide better control of such scattering amplitudes and a deeper understanding of their underpinning mathematics. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out research as part of this project, as a member of the associated research group. They will also provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students, and/or project volunteers.

Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline. They will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes, together with the ability to manage their own academic research and associated activities. Previous experience of independently managing a discrete area of a research project is desirable.
