Original Job Offer

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Low-Dimensional Topology/Geometry

We are currently inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to work with Professor Marc Lackenby at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. This is a three-year, fixed-term position, funded by a research grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). We anticipate the starting date of this position to be 01 October 2024.

The successful candidate will work on low-dimensional topology/geometry. They will have the opportunity to develop their own research programme and to collaborate with Professor Lackenby on projects related to algorithms in low-dimensional topology. These projects have two main goals:

1) The elucidation of the computational complexity of some fundamental decision problems in low-dimensional topology, such as the homeomorphism problem for 3-manifolds

2) The development of machine learning as a tool for pure mathematicians, specifically the development of new conjectures in low-dimensional topology/geometry.

We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress toward advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our strategic aim to improve staff equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications from women and BME candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type within the department.
