About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to conduct research in a collaborative research team based at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Charles Perkins Centre (CPC) at the University of Sydney, and Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), Westmead. This role will report in to Dr Pengyi Yang, carrying out scientific research in the broad area of computational systems biology and preparing and presenting scientific results in papers and conferences, co-supervising undergraduate and graduate research students, assisting in the recruitment of research students and continuously working towards attracting new funding. Additionally, you will help to coordinate the research of different researchers and eventually apply for independent research fellowship and collaborative research funding.

• A PhD in an appropriate area such as (but not limited to) computational and systems, biology, bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics and statistics or another closely related scientific discipline.
• Proven research ability, and evidence of self-motivation and research potential
• Demonstrated experience with omics, bioinformatics, systems biology and molecular biology
• Demonstrated experience with machine learning, deep learning and data analytics
• Proven excellence in written and oral communications, interacting with a variety of researchers and stakeholders
• Proven commitment to producing high quality work and a demonstrated track record of high-quality publications
• Demonstrated excellence in research within bioinformatics or computational systems biology through published research in refereed journals
• Proven ability to write and contribute to bioinformatic, computational, statistical, or mathematical research papers
• Proven knowledge of stem cells and development (desirable, not essential)
