POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS AT CRM

The Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) offers 8 postdoctoral positions funded by the Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence Award (2020)

POSITIONS:

– 2 positions in the area of APPLIED MATHEMATICS, which include applications to BIOMEDICINE, NEUROSCIENCE, NATURAL HAZARDS AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION and MITIGATION

– 2 positions in the area of ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, NUMBER THEORY and TOPOLOGY

– 3 Positions in the area of ANALYSIS + PDEs or DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS

– 1 Position in the area of COMBINATORICS and THEORETICAL COMPUTER SCIENCE

DESCRIPTION

Duration: 2 years. Full-time, fixed-term appointment. The expected starting date will be September 2023.
Working conditions: The researcher will be offered a temporary contract by Centre de Recerca Matemàtica. Each fellow will be mentored by a senior researcher at the hosting group of choice.
Gross salary (see NOTE 1 at the bottom regarding Junior/Senior categories):
Junior: Gross salary 26.000 EUR/year before taxes.
Senior: Gross salary 30.000 EUR/year before taxes.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA / REQUIREMENTS

Having obtained a PhD after 1st January 2019 and before 28th February 2023, as well as a strong and relevant research record. Any career breaks due to: full-time family care or military service, will be considered if an appropriate proof is submitted.
To have worked in Spain at most 12 months during the previous three years of the deadline of the call.

HOW TO APPLY:

Fill Online application form ( http://calls.crm.cat/iframe/6 ) with contact details and personal information, as well as your area of choice (APPLIED; ANALYSIS-DYNSYS; AL_GE_TO_NBRTH; COMBINATORICS), your hosting group at CRM and the name, affiliation and email of two members of academic institutions able to provide references for the applicant. Letters will be requested directly by CRM at the beginning of Stage 2 for the shortlisted candidates.

Additionally, prepare one SINGLE PDF FILE (10Mb maximum; please provide a title for each document/section) including the following documents and upload it to the online application system:

List of peer-reviewed publications (to be submitted separately from the CV). Please provide your ORCID number.
Cover Letter (max 1 page).
Research proposal (max 4 pages) including: (a) Title and summary; (b State-of-the-art and objectives; (c) Scientific approach, methodology and timescale.
Copy of the Ph.D. degree certificate.
Evidence proving the mobility condition (PhD can suffice or scanned contracts/grant for a postdoctoral position abroad, for instance), as well as for any career break.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

EVALUATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

Stage 1: Applications to be evaluated by two external referees, using the following criteria:

Curriculum Vitae including the list of publications (55/100): PhD Thesis, research after the thesis (i.e. peer-reviewed papers without PhD supervisor as author, if applicable); international mobility (such as short-stays, visits; postdoctoral work at a different institution from the one awarding the candidate the PhD, if applicable.) and visibility (talks at international conferences, guest seminars, etc.). CV will be evaluated accordingly to the career stage and years of experience of the candidate.

Research Proposal (40/100): Originality and quality of the proposal; feasibility in terms of the applicant´s experience (30/100); Scientific and expected socio-economic impact at large. Please include an explicit section describing and arguing this (10/100).

Matching between applicant/proposal and host (5/100): Matching expertise and project with the hosting research group(s) and the CRM Strategic Research programme 22-24 at large.
The outcome of Stage 1 will be a shortlist of candidates per area.

Stage 2: Interviews will be carried out by an area-focused panel headed by a member of the CRM Scientific Advisory Board and comprising two senior members of the CRM research staff (one of them being the possible host). One of the three interviewers will be a woman.
The outcome of Stage 2 will be a ranked list (for each area/panel) with the selected candidate/s being at the top, followed by the reserve candidates.

The ranked lists will be handed to the CRM Director and the Scientific Director, who will send the offers to candidates. A minimum of three positions will be offered to Junior researchers.

APPOINTMENT and STARTING DATE

Selected candidates will get a signed letter (by email) from the CRM director with the corresponding conditions. They should accept the offer within two weeks (by email), confirming their possible starting date.
If the candidate declines, the position will be offered to the next candidate on the reserve list. Once all appointments have been accepted, the list of fellows and their research projects will be posted on the website.

The candidates with less than 2 years of postdoctoral experience at the time of the deadline will be considered as junior and offered the JUNIOR salary (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
The candidates with more than 2 years of postdoctoral experience at the time of the deadline will be considered as senior and offered the SENIOR salary (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
