Appointment period: 15 months
Appointment type: Full time
Position starting date: September 1, 2025, or upon an agreement
Deadline for applications: June 16, 2025
Gross salary: CZK 50 000 per month

A postdoc position is available as part of the GAÄŒR/DFG grant C*-Algebras of Symmetries and their Invariants at the Department of Abstract Analysis of the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMCAS). This is a joint grant between IMCAS (PI Karen Strung) and the University of Potsdam (PI Sven Raum).

The focus of the grant is symmetries and invariants (eg. K-theory and traces, non-stable K-theory, Ext- theory and Kasparov’s KK-theory) of C*-algebras associated with single homeomorphisms and more general groupoids, Hecke C*-algebras, and operator algebraic aspects of hyperbolic groups and dynamics. We invite applications from those with research interests in one or more of these areas.

Prague offers a very lively research environment, with a newly established group Prague Noncommutative Geometry and Topology (NCG&T): https://ncgandtprague.wordpress.com/

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed their PhD within the last 4 years (or will have completed it before the time of hiring). The position does not include any teaching duties. The successful candidate will have funds for travelling to conferences and research visits, as well as for inviting external research collaborators. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in NCG&T group activities including the weekly research seminar and informal working seminar. Duties will also include help organizing the “Pre-seminar”, a 30 minute introductory talk on the topic of the main research seminar, aimed at PhD students and non-experts.

The selection committee will evaluate the publication record, as well as other activities and professional achievements of the applicants, with respect to the stage of their career.

We offer affordable accommodation in the building of the Institute for the first 3-6 months. Questions and informal inquiries should be directed to Dr Karen Strung to her email address [email protected].

The following documents are required:
• CV
• List of publications
• Motivation letter (may include research statement)
• Two letters of reference
Applications for the position must be submitted exclusively using the electronic submission system at

Equal opportunities are an integral part of the Institute’s personnel policy. The Institute fosters the compatibility of work and family and encourages applications from qualified female researchers. Disabled applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualifications.

Only complete applications (including two letters of references) received by June 16, 2025, will be considered. Online interviews with shortlisted applicants will be scheduled for the week June 30 – July 4, 2025. All applicants will be notified by July 8, 2025.
