We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research position to work with Professor Sebastian Aland at HTW Dresden or TU Freiberg, Germany. The position is fixed-term for up to 3 years starting in early 2021 (flexible). The salary is up to 100% of the German E13 scale (>2600 Euro per month net), including social and health care benefits and but can be reduced to flexible part-time if desired.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Mathematics, Computational Engineering Science, Physics, or a related field, with a sound experience in numerical methods of PDEs, and a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will perform and manage mathematical research projects related to numerical simulation of PDEs on moving domains. Possible topics include fluid dynamic problems, surface PDEs, free boundary problems, level-set and phase-field methods.

The group of Professor Aland uses scientific computing to solve fundamental problems of other disciplines by numerical simulations. Problems are tackled in close interdisciplinary collaboration, for instance with the fields of biophysics, life science, materials science.

The successful candidate can choose to be located in Dresden or Freiberg. Dresden is one of the most beautiful towns in Germany and evolved in recent years to an internationally recognized scientific center. It combines an outstanding scientific environment with a vivid cultural scene and cheap costs of living. Freiberg is a small but charming town close to Dresden.
