We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Professor Jose A. Carrillo on an exciting current project in the analysis of nonlinear PDEs. This is a two-year, fixed-term position, and the post-holder will be based here at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. The position is funded by a research grant from the European Research Council.

The successful candidate will conduct research pertaining to one of the main strands of the proposal concerning the mathematical modelling, scientific computing, theoretical and numerical analysis of nonlinear aggregation/diffusion equations. Relevant potential research topics include structure preserving schemes for aggregation/diffusion equations; Bayesian parameter estimation for cell population models; inverse problems for aggregation-diffusion equations; pattern formation and phase transitions in nonlocal models; and the scientific computing and numerical analysis of the aggregation-diffusion and related kinetic equations. They will write up their results for publication, present papers at conferences and contribute ideas for new research projects, whilst also managing their own academic research and administrative activities.

Applicants will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline of theoretical and numerical analysis, mathematical modelling, and numerical simulations of PDE to work within established research programmes in the subtopic of Aggregation-Diffusion and kinetic problems in mathematical biology. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in at least two of the following techniques or topics: theoretical, numerical analysis or simulation for kinetic equations; or for nonlinear nonlocal Fokker-Planck equations; mathematical modelling based on PDE of collective behaviour in biology; Bayesian parameter estimation and inverse problems applied to related questions. Experience with at least one application of aggregation-diffusion equations is also desirable.
