Postdoc in Mathematical Biology at Oxford
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work alongside Professor Alain Goriely at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. The position is full time, fixed-term for 12 months, and the post-holder will be supported by a grant from the EPSRC. It is available for an immediate start.
The successful candidate will work alongside Professor Goriely to conduct research as part of an exciting new project to develop new mathematical tools and models to address fundamental issues of brain development, function and diseases. They will have the opportunity to write up their results for publication and represent the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics at external meetings/seminars, whilst also managing their own academic research and administrative activities.
Due to the great number of different interesting problems in this area, the particular project associated with this position is flexible. Depending on the expertise of the candidate, the research project can evolve in multiple directions, for instance from computational development to multiscale models, data analysis, or network theory.
Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline. They will possess sufficient specialist knowledge to work within established research programmes, and have completed work relevant to the interests of the research group. They will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publications, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings, and be able to manage their own academic research and associated activities.
We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our strategic aim to improve staff equality and diversity, we would particularly welcome applications from women and BAME candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type within the department.
