Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics
University of Cambridge
Vacancy Reference: LE18063
Limit of Tenure: 2 years
Closing date: 8th March 2019
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to develop theoretical approaches to study the collective cell dynamics of biological tissues. The position, which is supported by grant funding from the Royal Society, will be associated with the research group of Prof. Benjamin D. Simons, and will be based in both the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and the Wellcome Trust-Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute.
The successful candidate will be a theorist and will hold a PhD/DPhil in physics, mathematics, or a closely related field, with an interest in studying biological systems.
The position will be particularly suitable for candidates who have experience in the development of methods in non-equilibrium statistical physics, dynamical systems and/or soft matter physics, with an interest in applying such approaches to biological systems. However, previous experience in the study of living systems is not essential.
Duties will include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects.
