Duties and Responsibilities
UCL is investing strategically in Mathematics and Statistical Science, with the vision of creating a world-leading Institute of Mathematical and Statistical Science (IMSS). As part of this exciting expansion, we invite applications from outstanding postdoctoral researchers for Senior Research Fellows across the range of disciplines of the two departments. These are 3-year funded research posts at UCL for talented early-career mathematicians and statisticians to pursue an independent research programme.

There are four posts available:

IMSS Senior Research Fellow in Pure Mathematics
IMSS Senior Research Fellow in Applied Mathematics (including Financial Mathematics)
Two IMSS Senior Research Fellows in any area of Statistics and Applied Probability

Each fellow will receive a fund of £9000 (£3000 per year for 3 years) to support their research. Appointees will be expected to undertake high standard research in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics (including data science) or applied probability, leading to conference presentations and publication in leading journals. In addition, they will contribute to the research environment of the departments through interaction with staff and students and by participating in, and co-organising, IMSS events. A limited amount of teaching will be expected.

The posts are available from 1 March 2020 and successful applicants must be available to start no later than 1 October 2020. Flexible and part-time working arrangements are available.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate must have a PhD in mathematics, statistics or related discipline and a track record of international research excellence and publishing in the relevant discipline. A written independent research plan will form part of the application and it will be advantageous if the proposed research is related to one of the departments’ research groups:

For pure mathematics: pure and applied analysis; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics.
For applied mathematics: applied and numerical analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; financial mathematics; mathematical modelling in biology, industry and society
For statistical science: biostatistics; computational statistics; economics, finance and business; general theory and methodology; multivariate and high dimensional data; stochastic modelling and time series.
