Flora Philip Fellowship

Grade UE8 (£43,414 to £51,805 per annum)

School of Mathematics

Fixed Term Contract 35 hours per week, fixed term for four years

We are looking for an early career postdoctoral researcher from a background currently under-represented in the School’s academic community, to develop their own independent research, in a supportive environment under the guidance of a mentor. The post is available either on a full-time or part-time basis.

The School of Mathematics is pleased to invite applications for the 2022 Flora Philip Fellowship. This four-year Fellowship specifically supports early-career, postdoctoral researchers from backgrounds that are under-represented in the School’s academic community (e.g. gender, minority ethnicity, disability, disadvantaged circumstances, etc.). The Fellowship aims to provide a supportive and collegial environment for early-career researchers to develop their research and prepare themselves for future independent roles in academia and beyond.

Flora Philip Fellowships honour the pioneering achievements of Flora Philip (1865-1943) who was the first female member of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society and one of the first women to graduate from the University of Edinburgh in 1893: (https://www.ed.ac.uk/alumni/services/notable-alumni/alumni-in-history/flora-philip)

We seek candidates from diverse backgrounds that can demonstrate the potential for independent research and a future academic career, in an area that aligns with the research themes within the School. The Fellow will be associated to one of our existing research themes and will be supported by an academic mentor, including support and mentorship to pursue follow-on applications for longer-term independent Fellowships.
