Research within the frame of the national effort on artificial intelligence, with emphasis on the increasing and significant connection between Machine learning and Optimal transport theory. This means that the research activities should focus on computational aspects of Optimal transport theory, such as development of effective and large-scale algorithms, motivated by applications in machine learning. Interest in exploring the recently discovered relation between optimal transport and the so-called Generative Adversarial Nets (GANs) is meritorious, and in investigating connections between Machine learning/Optimal transport theory and other areas that are studied at the department, like geometry of spaces of probability measures, Kähler geometry, and Statistical mechanics.
