Associate Professor in Financial/Actuarial Mathematics
We are seeking a talented researcher in Financial or Actuarial Mathematics to join the Department of Statistics within our School of Mathematics. This role is part of an ongoing strategic collaboration between the School of Mathematics and Leeds University Business School. You will be joining a large Department of Statistics comprising around 24 staff with research interests in Financial Mathematics, Probability, Statistics, and Data Science. We welcome applicants with multidisciplinary interests; in addition to our links with the Business School, the Department has links to many other Schools as well as to the Leeds Institute of Data Analytics and the Alan Turing Institute. Many of our modules and programmes are accredited by the Royal Statistical Society and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
The research of the Probability and Financial Mathematics group focuses on stochastic modelling and control of systems and processes featuring uncertainty and complexity with applications in economics and finance, insurance, big data, biology, earth science, energy and physics. The methods and tools used come from probability theory, stochastic and complex analysis, statistics, and machine learning.
You will have a strong research profile with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary setting, an aspiration to obtain external research funding and a commitment to delivering first-class inspirational teaching and supervision within a research-intensive university.
As a member of the Department of Statistics, you will carry out research, teaching and associated administration within the School, Faculty and University and contribute to academic leadership in the field of Statistics. You must also be able to demonstrate international standing in your field, a track record of successful and substantive grant applications, the capacity to deliver an outstanding student experience and an ability to undertake successful academic leadership.
